Do you have some fun traditions you do on St. Patrick’s Day for the kids? Do the Leprechauns visit and create havoc? Or maybe you turn everything Green with Food Coloring like me. I decided to compile a bunch of Fun Leprechaun Ideas right here that can really help make St. Patrick’s Day fun for the kids.

Being my kids are half Irish I try to make St. Patrick’s Day fun for them. My tradition has always been turning everything Green with Food Coloring from their Milk to Pancakes, Eggs, Toast, Cupcakes, Cookies etc… Of course we always have Corned Beef & Cabbage for dinner and my Mother in Law always bakes us some delicious Irish Soda Bread every year. My kids also like me to turn their hair Green for school using colored hair spray, which is always fun. I like to think they will carry on some of these traditions with their own kids some day.

But in addition to what I do there are so many fun St. Patrick Day Ideas people do to celebrate this special day and I want to share some of them here with you and I think I may even add some of these on to our tradition. It is all about that mischievous little green Leprechaun that is in search of that Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow, but they do not like to get caught !!

Let the Green Food Coloring be your friend and add it to everything edible. Works great in Milk, Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Designs in Toast, Cookies, Cakes, Cupcakes, Clear Sodas like Sprites & Ginger Ale – You get the Idea – Turn everything Green !!!

Add some Green Food Coloring to the Toilet water – Now that would be a funny surprise for the kids first trip to the bathroom in the morning.

Let the kids think the Leprechaun’s were there by turning everything upside down in their rooms and in the house. Put things in odd places, Upside down, turn around pictures maybe even rearrange the furniture a bit. They are crazy little buggers !!!

Leave Green Footprints around the house – Cut them out from Green Construction Paper and Tape on the Floor, Up the walls and even on the Ceiling or you can even use washable paint.

Sprinkle Green Sprinkles all over the Breakfast Table, on their food and maybe in other fun places around the house.

Stamp a Shamrock on your Child’s Hand while they are asleep or even stick some Shamrock Stickers on them for a fun surprise when they wake up.

Leave a trail of Green Shamrock Stickers all over the house on Door Knobs, Bathroom Mirror, Floor etc… maybe have a treat waiting at the end for them – Gold Coins perhaps???

The night before take your Green Food Coloring and dye some Ice Cubes Green so that the kids can enjoy there Ice Cold Water Irish Style !!!

Dress up for the kids with a Fun St. Patrick’s Day Hat maybe some Green Sunglasses and Green Lipstick. Oh and as the kids leave for school give them a big Green Lipstick Kiss on their Cheek – that will make for fun conversation.

Create a St. Patty’s Day Treasure Hunt – for the Pot of Gold (Coins). Cut out Paper Shamrocks with Clues to find their special Pot of Gold (Coins) hidden somewhere in the house.

Have the kids create a Leprechaun Trap. We all know those little leprechauns can create a lot of mischief on St Patrick’s Day so maybe it’s best to set a few traps and see if they can catch one…  Let the kids get creative making their Trap using any kind of materials you may have around the house. After the Leprechaun Trap is created make sure to put it in a good spot, maybe near something Green. Some tips to attract a Leprechaun: add Rainbows, Gold Glitter – they are looking for that Gold Sparkle, Lucky Charms are always a Leprechaun favorite, add some Four Leaf Clovers they love those too. Tell your child to be creative – you do not want the Leprechaun’s to be suspicious…

Then be sure on St. Patrick’s Day Eve to add some Chocolate Gold Coins in their trap with a note on a Shamrock saying “Better Luck Next Year”, oh and don’t forget some Green Footprints around the area too.

Take a look at some of these creative Leprechaun Traps:
