How to Make Jell-O Chocolate Cherry Bombs

Here is a fun treat idea you can serve at your next party – Jell-O Chocolate Cherry Bombs. This EASY to make treat tastes very similar to Chocolate Covered Cherries with a Jell-O twist.

I came across the recipe for these Chocolate Cherry Bombs on the Kraft Foods Website and it intrigued me. Being we are big Jell-O fans in my house I was looking for some fun new recipes using Jell-O and this one stood out to me –  so I had to make a batch to try.

This past weekend on my birthday I had a bunch of friends over so I figured it was the perfect time to try out a new recipe. So with my camera in hand I documented step by step how I made them so I can share it with all of you. So let me show you how EASY These were to make…

Here is all you need to make a batch of these Jell-O Chocolate Cherry Bombs:

  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • 1 pkg.  (3 oz.) JELL-O Cherry Flavor
  • 1 can (5 oz.) Evaporated Milk
  • 2 squares  BAKER’S Semi-Sweet Chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 14 maraschino cherries with stems, drained

So I gathered up all my ingredients. On the Jell-O Website they suggested using 3 ounce Plastic Cups to mold these Cherry Bombs and then peel off when set or use a Mini Cupcake Pan. I chose to use a Mini Cupcake Pan for this and in the end it worked just fine and seemed to me to be much easier than their suggestion of the cups.

Mix your Boiling water with your Jell-O until dissolved.  In another microwavable bowl mix your Evaporated Milk and Chopped Chocolate and microwave for Approx. 2 Minutes on high and mix until smooth and dissolved. Mine took a bit longer in the microwave.  Then add that mixture to your Jell-O and whisk until nice and smooth.

Next I sprayed my Mini Cupcake Pan with cooking spray and poured in my Jell-O Mixture. Once you do that stick it into the refrigerator for approx. 15 minutes to set up a bit. Then take it out and gently place a Cherry on the top of each of them. Stick them back in the fridge for another 20+ minutes to finish setting up.

That is it !!! Easy right?

To get them out once set I just used a small spatula and ran it around the sides and they just popped out.

These would be a different treat to serve up at a party and they would be perfect for the holidays. I actually have some Green Maraschino Cherries in the house which I had on some (did not make photos) that looked really cool for Christmas.

I did have mixed reviews on these with the kids some of them loved them and others were not crazy about them. The ones that were not crazy for them were not Cherry fans. I thought the flavor tasted just like Chocolate Covered Cherries – they were different. I think you just have to try them out if they look yummy to you and see what you think.

Enjoy !!!!
