Survivor Birthday Party Theme

Do you have a child who is a big fan of the show Survivor? Then why not throw them a Survivor Birthday Party. I am going to give you some fun ideas and inspiration to help you pull it off right here.

I am personally a HUGE fan of the show and have been watching it since it first aired in 2000. Can you believe it 11 years of Survivor and still going strong and it gets better and better every year.

Many years back when I first started my business I was hired to put together a 16th Birthday Party based on the game of Survivor with a large group of kids. It turned out to be so much fun and the kids loved it. I will share some pictures of that at the end of this post. For now I want to help you pull off a Survivor Party Theme of your own and it is not as hard as you think.

Birthday Direct carries the Survivor Party Supplies exclusively. You will find all your Survivor Paper Goods and even some matching Survivor Party Invitations all on their site.

Other Survivor Party Invitations Ideas you could do that would be fun are the Message in a Bottle Invitations, Tiki Invitations or create your own. Maybe send a Tiki Necklace (Idol) to each with the party information attached to it. You can really have fun with these if you are creative.

Setting the scene for your Survivor Party is pretty easy. Keep it tropical as if they have entered onto an island. Use Tropical Party Supplies, Tiki Party Supplies and make sure to have some Tiki Torches lit around the party area as well.

What really makes a Survivor Party are the Challenges. Basically you have your Tribes (Teams), Challenges, Prizes and Sole Survivor. I would skip the Voting out part – just too complicated at a party and you really want everyone to have fun. So forget that part.

When your party guests arrive to the party you will want to separate them into Teams (Tribes). Depending on the amount of kids at the party I would try to stick to 2 Teams, but if you have more you can break it down further. A fair way to do this is by either having some Survivor Buffs

just like on the show – you can get the real ones or just get some Colored Bandannas for this.  Stick them into a bag and have the kids pick one without looking to determine the team they are on. If you have kids at the party who may not know each other Name Tags would be great to help them get to know each other and make things a lot easier.

Then you can give each team a Poster Board with some Markers and Crayons and have them decide on a Team (Tribe) Name and create their Flag. (This is always fun to see what they come up with).  You can also tape each one onto a lit Tiki Torch and add to the drama – when that team does not move on you can snuff their fire.

Prior to the party you want to come up with some Team Challenges for them to compete at.  Keep them Simple and have as many Challenges as time allows for the party. Also create a Score Board with their Team (Tribe) Names this way you can keep track of scoring. So when either team wins a Challenge you give them points and to be fair I would maybe give the winning team 5 points and the losing team 3 points – makes it more fun to give them each some points. Then which ever Team has the Highest amount of points by the end of the Challenges will move on for a chance at Sole Survivor. So you will also need a Challenge or Two for when you get down to the Sole Survivor Challenge.

Prizes – To incorporate Prizes you can have a Prize Table Set up with lots of Misc Items on it – small prizes. When each team wins a Challenge they get to go to the prize table and pick out 1 prize. If one of the Teams never gets to go up for a prize at the end of the game let who ever did not get a prize go pick one out anyway. This way no one goes home empty handed.

Now I would also have 1 Big Prize for the Sole Survivor – this one is obviously going to be better than any of the small prizes. When I did the Survivor Party we had a Treasure Chest full of goodies for the Sole Survivor.

So now that you have the idea of how it works Here are some Survivor Game Challenge Ideas – some of which we used at the Survivor Party I hosted.

Shoe Challenge – Everybody will take off their shoes and put them into a pile. Then everyone will form a circle (stay with their team). On “go” everyone will run to the pile and find their shoes. You will then put them back on and return to your place in the circle. First team to get back with all their shoes on and in place wins.

Broom & Egg Sweep – Each team will be given a Broom and an Egg. You also need to have some Wickets set up and a Post at the end of that for each team. One member of each team will sweep their egg through the wickets from one end to the other, go around post and back to start. Then they will hand off the broom and egg to the next player in line. First team to complete the Challenge wins. **Have Extra Eggs on Hand – if a player breaks an egg they must go back to start grab a new egg and begin again.

Orange Game – Each team will be given an orange and form a line. The first teammate will place the orange in their neck and must pass it to the next teammate’s neck. If the orange is dropped that is the only time you can use your hands. First team to pass their Orange to all players wins. Have some extra fun and make them send it back to the first teammate.

Marshmallow Scramble – Mark a whole bunch of Marshmallows with dots coordinating to the Team Colors prior the party. Then mix up all the Marshmallows in a big pile. Have the teams at the same distance away from the pile. On go set a timer for lets say 2 minutes and all the guests have to run and find their teams colored Marshmallows. They can be carried in any fashion and be brought back to the starting line with colored dot side up. Now here is the fun part each team is allowed to toss their opposing teams Marshmallows away to make them harder to get. When the time is up you tally up each teams Marshmallow and they would get 1 point for everyone they gathered that belonged to them. If they got one of an opposing team then they loss a point.

True/False Game – Create a Wood Sign with True on one side and False on the other for each Team. Also create a Flag on a stick for each team that an be placed into the ground. Make up a bunch of True & False Questions prior to the party. Have each Team together in a group and the their Team Flag placed a distance away. Then each team must choose a teammate who will steal the other teams flag. Then you will ask  a question and they will have 30 seconds to give your answer. For every question the team gets correct the teammate chosen to steal the flag moves 2 steps towards the other teams flag, one foot must always be on the ground, there is no jumping or hopping. When the flag stealer can reach the other teams flag they can grab it and run back to their Team – 1st Team to do this wins !!

Gone Fishin’ – For this you will need a Pair of Swim Goggles for each Team – Cover the lenses with Dark Paper so they cannot see when wearing them. When I made these for the party I hosted I had a little extra fun and made Googly Eyes on them – Hilarious !! Then have a bunch of Plastic Fish in the colors for each Team. Each team will form a line and the first person puts on the goggles and the next person in line will direct them by talking with directions to a fish lying in front of them. One they have it in hand them must direct them back and pass off the Goggles and so on down the line until everyone has gone. The first Team to have all their Fish Back wins !!

Math Equation Challenge – For this challenge you will need a nice large bowl of Pennies. Come up with 4 Math Equations for Each team that will each equal 1 number of a year that appears on a Penny – different for each team. For instance; 1996 – Each Math Equation must end up equaling one of those numbers 1,9,9,6. Make the Math Equations long and fun with division, subtraction & multiplication. Each team will be given 4 slips of paper with 4 math equations on them and one blank piece of paper, each team will need to figure out each equation. They will come out with 4 different numbers, they must then put those numbers in the order they think they go. Then will then run to a bowl of pennies and find one with that number year combination on it and bring it back to you if they think they have found it – only 1 penny may be brought back at a time, if it is not correct then the team must change their answer and try again, first team to get this correct will win.

Puzzle Challenge – This Challenge will need a couple Puzzles – I would buy 2 similar Puzzles with the same amount of pieces. Then Stick them in a bag without the picture of what it should look like. Give them to each team to put together and which ever team gets it complete first wins !!!

Obstacle Course – If you have the room and are able to play outside at the party then create an obstacle course. Use what you may already have available and create a fun course each team needs to race completing

Eating Challenge –  Of course for this the kids will not eat Bugs or Animal Parts, but you can have some fun with it. Give each player on each team a plate with some sort of food – Maybe a plate of  cereal, gummy candy (in bug shapes) or anything else fun you can think of. On Go have them each place their hands behind their backs and which ever team can finish the food on their plates first wins.

Scavenger Hunt – Buy a bunch of fun items to hide in your yard for this – buy 2 of each for each team. Hide them around in your yard. Give each team a copy of the items they have to find – you can even give a copy to each teammate.  Then have them go search for them and set up a place where they have to be brought back to. BUT if they find more than one item they can only bring one back at a time. First team to find all of the items and have them brought back wins !!

So there you have a great start with some ideas for your Survivor Party Challenges.

When those are done and you have your winning Team (Tribe) then they must now fight to win the title of Sole Survivor.

The game we did when I hosted this theme was perfect and a lot of fun.

Sole Survivor Balloon Game – Prior to the party blow up a bunch of Balloons and tie a piece of string to each of them. Then each player will tie a Balloon to their ankle. When you say “go” they will then try and pop the other players balloons by stomping on them. But they have to remember to protect their own at the same time and not get all tangled. The person left with their Balloon still inflated is the Sole Survivor and wins the big Prize !!! How fun is that?

I also found Ebay Seller Chase Games sells a Survivor Birthday Party Games & Challenges Kit

that gives you access to 46 easy-to-use files that allow you to design and plan a unique Survivor Theme Party lasting from 2 to 24 hours.  All the files are laid out so that you can build your party step by step with whatever complexity level you are comfortable with.

In the package you get…

  • 30+ Survivor party challenges for indoors and outdoors
  • Pre-party welcoming activities
  • Invitations and thank-yous with envelopes
  • Planning, scheduling and score-keeping sheets
  • Templates for immunity idols, ballots, torches
  • Drink recipes
  • Theme Music

I also found these cool Survivor Scratch off Games

on Ebay as well.  They say “Survivors Ready? Find the Hidden Immunity Idol and you win !”. Each set sold includes one winner and the winner is the one who reveals the Tiki. The losing cards say – Sorry the Tribe has spoken. This is just some extra added fun to the party and another cool excuse to award a fun prize – I love these.

If you want more than one winner – you can just request that and they will send them.

When it comes to your Survivor Birthday Cake you can create any Tropical Themed Cake to work with the theme. Or you can make some Survivor Cupcakes instead. Cupcakes are my choice at parties – makes things so much easier. I have made it even easier for you with my FREE Printable Survivor Cupcake Toppers.  Just print them out on Cardstock, Cut Out, Tape a Toothpick or Craft Stick to the back and place into your Cupcakes. To create the look of sand just frost your Cupcakes and sprinkle with Brown Sugar and you are done !!

Now how EASY is that? I say very !!

For your Survivor Party Favors have a little fun and create little Survivor Bags for each of the party guests. Include thing in the bag like Snacks, Drinks, Diary, Pen, Compass, Sunglasses etc.. You get the idea – just make sure they are items the kids can use and not junky toys that will just get tossed out.

Here are some pictures from the Survivor Party I hosted many years ago:

This party was quite large so we broke it down into 4 Teams (Tribes). Prior to the party I hand painted a Flag for each team. The room was decorated completely Tropical and we also had a large area outside where most of the games were played. The Treasure Chest in the middle was the Prize for the Sole Survivor and filled with lots of Goodies.  It was an old Chest my client found that I Glitzed up with Glitter Paint – it sparkled like crazy. The Party Girl’s Cake was also a Treasure Chest – I did not make that though. It was definitely one fun Sweet 16 and all the kids had a great time and I gave myself a nice pat on the back after this one.

So I hope this post was helpful if you were looking for ideas on how to put together a Survivor Party. I am tellin’ ya it is so much fun for all. The only other tip I can give to you is be very well organized with all of your Games and it will go great.
