If you are looking for a fun and easy craft for your Summer Luau Party then you will definitely have to make some of these Paper Name Tikis. Your guests will be amazed at how COOL these are and fun to create.
I have to give credit where credit is due and that is to my Sista Peep. When my daughter had her Luau Birthday Party a few years back she showed us how to make these great Name Tikis for part of our Luau Party Decorations and I had to share. I hung them on my kitchen cabinets which were then an off white so they really stood out and made for great conversation.
So I am going to give you step by step instructions on how you can make these at home or use at your Hawaiian Luau Party as a great activity with the kids. Or make them just for fun on a rainy day.
Have fun with it and every name will be a different look – which makes it even more fun.
- Paper – Any color – use your imagination – I used brown paper – actually it was a reused brown grocery bag.
- Pencil and a Marker
- Scissors
- Crayons, Colored Pencils and Colored Markers if you choose to decorate them.
Step 1: Fold your paper in Half
Step 2: Write your name in cursive with your pencil – Younger kids may need help with this part. We are using the name Nick as the example.
Make sure the bottom of the name written is also at the fold as shown
Step 3: Outline the name in marker
You can see how we did it here
Make sure the outline touches the fold on the paper as shown
Step 4: Cutting Time – Follow the marker and cut your name out
Keep cutting – You may need to assist the younger children with this
When you are done cutting it should look like this with your name
Step 5: Unfold it – you can see the name Nick at the top
Turn it and you now have your Tiki Name – How cool is that? You can decorate it or leave it as is.
Here are a few more that we have done:
Again I would like to thank my Sista Peep for the great idea and all her help in planning this party. My sister helps with all my kids Birthday Parties and I could not do it without her. Thanks Sis!!!
Hi. I like the way you write. Will you post some more articles?
Thank you very much – I try to write everyday so keep checking back
This is a super fun activity. I remember doing it when I was a kid, but I LOVE the tiki twist – great idea!! I’m posting it today at DollarStoreCrafts for the All Things Family roundup.
Thank you so much – I passed the link around and added it to my Facebook Page
