How to Make Chocolate Crescent Roll Bats

Now here is a fun treat for your Halloween Party that will definitely have everyone wanting to “Take a Bite”.  These Chocolate Crescent Roll Bats are SWEET and Delicious.

Have you ever made Chocolate Crescent Rolls before? They are so EASY to do and all I did was cover them with a Chocolate Icing and add a Bat Head to them.  This chill in the air has gotten me back into the kitchen wanting to Bake since having the oven on feels good.

My daughter has not been feeling good this weekend with a cold that I blame on Back to School germs and it never fails that my kids get sick within the first 2 weeks back.  She is a chocolate lover and I wanted to make her a special feel good treat.  So when I decided to make her some Chocolate Crescent Rolls the idea to turn them into Bats came to me – I know crazy right? but this is how my head works. Must be the chilly air and Halloween on the brain or maybe I was just feeling Batty from playing nurse. So I went with my vision and I think they turned out really cute.

So as always I documented the process Step by Step in case they were worthy of a share and I think they are so let me show you how I did it….

Here is what I used to create my Chocolate Crescent Roll Bats:

  • 2 Refrigerated Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 Pillsbury Crescent Rounds
  • 1 Bag of Nestle Milk Chocolate Chips
  • Red Hots (eyes)
  • Black & White Decorators Icing

***Note: The above makes 16 Bats – if you want only 8 then just use 1/2***

For the Chocolate Icing:

  • 2/3 Cup of Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Water
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla

***Note: If you are making 16 Bats you will probably need to double the Chocolate Icing Recipe, if you are making 8 this will be plenty***

So I gathered up my ingredients – Note: I only needed one bag of Chocolate Chips, but the photo shows 2. I was unsure who much I would need so now I have a bag for my stock ;0).

So all you do is lay out your Crescent triangle and add a pile of Chocolate Chips and then roll it up as you normally would to get your Crescent shape. Then just pinch the ends closed. Stick in the oven as directed and bake until golden brown. Set them aside to cool. So far so EASY right?

I decided to use Crescent Rounds for the heads to keep the flavors all the same, but you can use a cookie if you like for the head too. So what I did was cut each round in 1/2. Then I pinched them at the top to create ears. Try to pinch them really good because they will puff up and grow when baked. Line them up on your cookie sheet and bake until golden brown. You can still manipulate the ears a little when they come out of the oven if you need to. I needed to on some of mine. Let them cool.

While everything was cooling I made my Chocolate Icing. Mix together the Powdered Sugar, Cocoa Powder, Vanilla and Water. If you want your Bats to be black this is the time to add in some Black Food Coloring. I decided not to do that and kept the Brown Chocolate Color.

Next up is the Assembly…

Next I used clean paint brush and brushed on my Chocolate Icing to the Crescent Roll (I also had them on Wax Paper to make taking them off later easy). I find using a Paint Brush allows me to get a nice even coat. Then I took a Bat Head and added some extra Icing to the back and placed on top of the wings. Then carefully I brushed the head with icing. While the head was still wet I added on my Red Hot eyes.  Do this for all of your bats and then set them aside to let the icing harden up before adding on the mouth and fangs.

So after they were dry I added on my mouth. You can choose to leave them with just eyes, but I felt they needed to have fangs. So I took some Black Decorators Icing and added my mouth. Then I took some White Decorators Icing and using the tip of a knife I added on Fangs. And my Chocolate Crescent Roll Bats were born.

I think they came out really cute and I think they would make a fun addition to your Halloween Party Food Table don’t ya think?

The best part is that they brought a smile to my daughter’s face when she was not feeling so good, with that darn Back to School cold she caught, and she LOVED them. I am actually having one as I write this with my morning coffee – YUM.

I am hoping these are the only bats we will see in my house this year since we do get some that want to come in our house for a visit from time to time. As you can imagine that is in no way fun. I hope they do not see me biting the head off of my Crescent Roll Bat treats with my evil smirk and want to take revenge.
