Chocolate Sugar Cookie MustachesToday I decided I would bake again, so I created these yummy Chocolate Sugar Cookie Mustaches. I have had a set of Mustache Cookie Cutters I have been meaning to use for quite some time now.

It must be this cool weather that has me in the kitchen baking up a storm lately. Like I said I have had these Mustache Cookie Cutters that were sent to me to try out from Fuzzy Ink. They were the perfect cookie cutters to use to try out a recipe for Chocolate Sugar Cookies I wanted to make for my daughter who loves chocolate.

I have never baked Chocolate Sugar Cookies before so I was very excited to make them. I have to say they turned out really good and have just the right amount of sweetness – they are not overly sweet at all. They are also more of a crispy cookie vs. soft and chewy cookie and perfect for dipping into a glass of milk.

Here is the Chocolate Sugar Cookie Recipe I used:

  • 1 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 Cups Sugar
  • 1 Egg

In a bowl sift together the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt and set that aside. In another bowl cream together the butter and sugar until nice and smooth. Then beat in your egg. Then gradually stir in the sifted ingredients to form your cookie dough.

Then take your dough and wrap in saran wrap and refrigerate for about 2 hours.

Then roll out your dough and cut out whatever shape you want to make with it. Then place them about 1 1/2″ apart on your cookie sheet and bake them for about 8-10 minutes at 375. Allow the cookies to cool on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes before moving them to your cooling rack.

***Tip: After my first batch got stuck to my cookie sheet and I had some mustache casualties I sprayed it with some cooking spray because I was not using a non stick cookie sheet.

Now time to get baking…

mustache cookiesI have another tip for you. In the first picture is my dough ready to be rolled out. I actually placed it onto freezer paper and sprinkled a little cocoa powder to help prevent it from sticking. I used that vs. flour to avoid having white on my cookies. I then placed another piece of freezer paper on top and used my rolling pin to roll it out.

This cookie dough was a bit dryer than other cookie doughs I have made so using this technique really helped it from sticking and getting to crumbly.

I also rolled it out a tiny bit thicker since the cookie cutters I was using had thin edges and I wanted to prevent easy breakage.

So I cut out my mustache shapes and baked them up, let them cool on the racks and then they were ready to eat.

They came out so adorable and again they taste delicious!!

Time to call in my daughter to do the official taste testing…

mustache cookies 1Come on you can’t not play with the Mustache Cookies before you eat them, that is what they are all about right?

In my house I expect my kids to play with their food !! lol

Oh and as far as her thoughts on the taste of the cookies – She LOVED them.

These Chocolate Mustache Cookies are the perfect addition to a Mustache Party, Just for Fun and of course MOvember which is right around the corner.
