Play Dough is fun for all ages and it is also a fun activity to have at a Birthday Party. Yes you can buy Play Doh already made, but it is even more fun to let the kids create their own. So I would like to share with your some fun Natural Play Dough Recipes that can be easily created with simple ingredients you may all ready have in your home.
Not only will the kids enjoy playing with it, but they will like the fact that they made it themselves even better. Some of the Play Dough Recipes are even edible – so they can play and eat at the same time. This is when playing with your food has a whole new meaning. This party activity can also double as a Party Favor for the kids to take home – Just place their Play Dough in a Ziplock Baggie and they can take it home for fun after the party is over. I love that !!!
Set up your Table with fun tools such as Cookie Cutters, Plastic Utensils, Toothpicks and any other items that the kids can use to shape and make designs in their Dough. Also make sure you have a disposable Tablecloth on the table and even on the floor if you are doing this activity where there is carpet.
Other Tips:
- Make sure kids have washed their hands prior to playing
- If Play Dough becomes to Dry you can always add in a drop of water
- If Play Dough becomes to Sticky add in some Flour
- Use Food Coloring to color your Doughs
- Want Glitter – Add some in – just do not Eat
- Store Play Dough in either an Air Tight Container or a Ziploc Baggie
Put on some Music and let the kids have lots of free play as they create their little Dough Masterpieces. You can even give out little prizes for different categories like Most Creative, Funniest, Best Play Dough Pet etc…

Salt Dough Recipe (One of my Favorites)
- Salt
- Flour
- Water
Mix equal amounts of Salt, Water & Flour in a mixing bowl until you get it to a Dough like Consistency. I love this Dough recipe and have used it may times in my home. What I love about it is that if you leave the Dough out it will harden up and the kids can paint it. Or you can stick your shapes into a low temp oven and do the same thing. If you want to save their molded and then painted creations be sure to spray with an Acrylic Sealer. I have made lots of Christmas Ornaments with the kids using this recipe – they love it !!!
- 1 Cup Flour
- 2 Cups Oatmeal
- 1 Cup Water
Gradually add Water to your Flour and Oatmeal in a Mixing Bowl. Knead until all mixed up. This recipe will be a bit sticky, but it is a fun unique Texture the kids love.
- 1 Container of Chocolate Frosting
- 1 Cup Peanut Butter
- 1 1/2 Cups Powdered Milk
Mix all the ingredients together in a Mixing Bowl, and knead until you get your Play Dough consistency. When all mixed this should not be sticky. Of course the kids can eat this one too !!
- 1 3oz Pkg of Sugar Free Jell-O

In a mixing bowl beat Egg White until stiff. Then add in your next ingredients one at a time in order listed above. Mix really well and then let sit for about 30 minutes. You can then divide and add in food coloring is desired. Now how yummy will this smell? For me very – I love Coconut.
Silly Putty Recipe (I just had to add this to the list)
