It looks like the real thing, but when your kids take a bite, their taste buds will be pleasantly surprised by the no-beef patties, special sauce, and sesame cookie buns.   They are made using Nilla Wafers for the buns. A Peppermint Patty for the meat, shredded coconut with a little green food coloring for the lettuce, and yellow and red icing for the mustard and ketchup!  These cute little “burgers” are a great party food that’s fun and easy to make.   Also sure to get some laughs and be the talk of the party!!

These tasty treats were created by Snickerdoodles Bake Shop and I thought they were absolutely adorable. Lucky for us they were happy to share Step by Step How to make these “Sham” Burgers so you can make them for your party too. Now that was Super Nice or maybe I should say Super SWEET!!!

What you will need to create your “Sham” Burgers:

  • Nilla Wafers
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds and some corn syrup (optional)
  • Green food coloring
  • Red and yellow icing
  • Peppermint patties

How to put it all together:

1. To make the “lettuce,” place shredded coconut into a plastic bag.  Add a few drops of green food coloring, close the bag, and shake until the coconut has turned a light green.

2. To build the burgers, take a Nilla wafer and squirt a bit of both the yellow and red icing on the bottom of the cookie near the edge so that when you assemble the burgers the “mustard” and “ketchup” will ooze out.  This is your bottom bun.

3. Place the Peppermint patty on top of the bottom bun and then sprinkle the coconut “lettuce.”

4. Take another Nilla wafer and again dab a little of yellow and red icing on the bottom side of the cookie near the edge.  This is your top bun.

You can also wrap the burgers in wax paper or foil to give them a more authentic hamburger look.  As another option, the plain buns can be turned into sesame seed buns simply by brushing light corn syrup on top and sprinkling some sesame seeds.   Arrange them on a platter and serve!

Katrina from Snickerdoodles made these as a fun snack for her son’s field trip last year on April 1st for April Fool’s Day. The kids were so surprised and got a good laugh out of them!  Very fun!

I would like to give a Shout Out Thank You to Snickerdoodles Bake Shop for sharing this yummy treat with us. I cannot wait to trick my own kids with these.
