A friend of mine just had a Construction Birthday Party Theme for her son’s 1st Birthday and I have to share with you some of her creative ideas along with some others I find will make your party perfect. A Construction Theme Party is very popular for the boys who love everything to do with Construction Trucks. So let me walk you through some great ideas to give you some inspiration to planning a fun party for your little one.
My Friend Kim decided to make her own Dump Truck Invitations which can be easily done and boy are they adorable. All you need is some Black Construction Paper to form the shape of your Dump Truck and you can easily do this freestyle just by looking at the picture. When you are at the bottom of the truck cut out bumps where the wheels will go so when you put the wheels on they can turn with the brads.
Then cut out 2 Wheels using the black construction paper. Then with Yellow Construction Paper you can cut out the Dump Body, Door, and 2 little circles for the middle of the wheels. Now take some Sand Paper and cut a pile of sand that will fit in your Dump Truck. Print a photo of the Birthday Child to use on the invites and cut it to fit in the front of the truck like they are at the window. Then take a colored piece of paper of your choice to write out all of your party information that will go behind the Dump Body.
Use these for your template to cut out all the invitations you will need so they are all the same size. Now to assemble you are going to need some Black Brads for the Dump Body and the Wheels – so 3 per invite. Use a glue stick to Glue on the Door, Photo, Sand Paper,Yellow Circles in the wheels and the Party Information. Attach your Dump Body and Wheels using the Brads as seen in the photo. Your Dump Body will be able to open like a Dump Truck to reveal your Party Info. Then you can decorate the front any way you like. This take some time, but the end result is well worth it.
If you are not that creative you can find some great Personalized Construction Theme Party Invitations on Ebay. You have plenty of great design choices and a lot of the sellers even give you the option of adding your child’s photo and printing them from home.
Kim kept her decorations simple, but creative to give the party area a construction site feel. She used Caution Tapeto decorate the room, doors, tables and even on the edge of the Birthday Boy’s High Chair. Of course you can also add in Construction and Truck Shaped Balloonsand even Solid Yellow and Black Balloons to go along with the colors on the Caution Tape.
In addition to that she had a Construction Hard Hat for each of the guests that came to the party. She also decorated her son’s to make his extra special with Construction Stickersand she wrote “It is fun to be 1″. The hats will also double as a party favor.
For the Paper Goods Kim used Solid Yellow to keep the cost down which is always a great idea and it matched the Caution Tape perfectly. You can also choose to purchase the party packs that would include all of your Construction Paper Goods like the Construction Pals Deluxe Party Packor the Under Construction Party Kit depending on which pattern you prefer.
For snacks Kim used Plastic Dump Trucks, Wheel Barrels and other Construction Vehicles. She added in her fun treats to the back and it really added to the fun. You can probably find these already in your home. If you use some you already have for this idea be sure to wash them really well or line then with plastic wrap.
Kim made two cakes for the party. The first one she created was a Number One Cake that she turned into a construction site. She made the Number one by baking a two 9″ x 13″ cakes and cutting out a Number One Shape. If you do not feel that brave you can purchase Number Cake Pansthat come in all numbers. To create the scene on the top she frosted the cake with Vanilla frosting and added in Cocoa Powder to get the beige color that looks like sand. On top of that she sprinkled crushed Graham Crackers and Oreos to get an even more realistic feel. The sides of the cake are frosted with Vanilla Frosting she turned Yellow with food coloring. On the sides she used Black Icing to write caution and add in some Black Lines. The top is finished with some Construction Toys and Signs along with some Candy Corns to represent Construction Cones. On the side of the cake she added some smaller trucks and the Dump Truck toy is filled with the crushed Oreos to look like dirt. Now that is One yummy cake.
The second cake Kim created was for her son and that was a Construction Truck Cake she created by seeing a photo and getting busy. She used the left over cake pieces from the Number One cake to stack them into the truck shape. She used 2 sizes of chocolate donuts for the wheels, Vanilla frosting turned yellow with food coloring, Crushed Oreos for the dirt and windows, Gum drop lights and frosted Pretzel rods to create her PayLoader. Now that is creative.
If you love the Ideas, but do not find your self that creative no need to worry there are lots of great Construction Cake Decorating Kitsand Truck Shaped Cake Pansavailable you can use. I have also blogged about some fun Construction Cupcake ideas using Edible Sugar Tools that is worth seeing as well.
Do not forget your Pinatas and you can find many to go along with this theme like a Dump Truck Pinata, Bulldozer Pinataand you can find a lot more choices for Construction Theme Pinatason Ebay – like one of my favorites – a Construction Hat Pinata. You can also find some fun Construction Party Gameson Ebay as well like Pin the sign on the construction site.
Now for my favorite part of the party – Party Favors. One of my favorites for this theme are the Take HomeConstruction Cone Cups. They are reusable plastic cups that come with a straw and can hold 8 Ounces. You can even take a permanent marker and add each guests name on them.
Then add in a Chocolate Covered Rice Krispy Dump Truck Treat and you have the perfect ending to your party. These treats are Huge and come individually wrapped and on a stick – each one is made fresh to order. You can even change the colors to match your theme.
You can also find Pre Made Construction Theme Party Favors Boxesor you can fill a fun Paper Tool Box with Construction Toys, Stickers, Tattoos and other little trinkets. Just keep it simple and stay within your budget.
